Four of Wales' finest jazz musicians join three of India's new wave of adventurous genre-breaking artists to create Khamira (meaning 'yeast' in Hindi). Suhail Yusuf Khan's virtuosic Serengi dovetails with Tomos Williams' trumpet, Vishal Nagar's tabla joins in a feast of rhythms and syncopations with Mark O'Connor's drum kit, while Aditya Balani's soaring guitar solos are supported by Dave Jones' keyboard and Aidan Thorne's bass. Khamira's music is somewhere between the cinematic scope of the Pat Metheny Group and the grunge funk of Miles Davis' 70s band, inter-twinned with passages of melancholic Welsh folk music and Indian classical virtuosity. An unique World music experience! Recorded over 3 days at Red Kite Studios, Llanwrda in the remote Welsh hills near Llandovery, this eponymous recording is Khamira's first release. "An album to place close to Shakti's Natural Elements - and I can't think of much higher praise than that"- Jazz Journal **** "Amazing" - Chris Philips, JazzFM "the septet creates music that's by turns, experimental, traditional, familiar, and otherworldly...Vibrant, colourful and excitingly different..." - RnR Magazine **** "The duet between Suhail Yusuf Khan's tender vocals and Tomos Willliams' Miles-style trumpet that is 'Ffarwel i Gymru/Morey Nain is a delight, and there are individual moments of brilliance in the solos across the pieces" - Songlines *** "A true fusion of Welsh and Indian folk and classical music with a healthy injection of Big Fun-era Miles Davis." - Wales Arts Review "Exquisite" - Adam Walton, BBC Radio Wales "Mae'r traciau lleddf a'r alawon Cymreig yn wefreiddiol" - Lefi Gruffudd, BarnExpand
