this album was recorded at an old bomb shelter / bunker (Vapaan Taiteen Tila) in Helsinki, Finland, on 13 November 2015. following a 5-hour durational performance earlier that week, the three of us (Laonikos, Chris, Amanda) spent a day inside the bunker improvising with the huge echo of the space and making this recording.
the original improvisation featured a 5-hour long natural soundscape with field recordings from the Finnish wilderness, including the sound of water against the paddle and canoe, dawn chorus on a chilly May morning, the sound of wood crackling on a cold autumn night in Koli national park. some of these sounds are also used to stimulate our senses and help us place our sounds, not on a blank studio canvas, but a living and constantly changing quietness.
