'Echoes of Solitude' marks the first joint venture as equal collaborators between Norwegian tuba player and bass trumpeter Daniel Herskedal and Italian keyboardist and composer Mattia Vlad Morleo. 'Echoes of Solitude' emerged from a genuine musical synergy that began with a single collaborative effort in 2022. This partnership thrived on live stages, particularly highlighted at the 'Time Zones Festival,' showcasing the deepening connection between the artists. This 3 track EP weaves an absorbing tapestry of sound, melding Herskedal's intimate brass whispers with Morleo's deep, harmonic explorations on piano and harmonium, as Daniel Herskedal explains: "We both navigate a cinematic landscape, and appreciate the blend of open spaces, peacefulness , and a hint of darkness. Our musical expressions are in sync, enriching each other with a synergy between our instruments and sounds."
The instrumentation is earthy and organic and a perfect blend, as Mattia Vlad Morleo continues: "We explored the expressive potential across various instruments, particularly drawn to shaping sounds, like the unique timbres of a late 19th-century Harmonium recorded at the Funkhaus in Berlin using a mid-20th-century tape machine. This process was further enriched by integrating sound sculptures and the rhythmic textures of synthesisers, piano, and strings, creating a rich tapestry of musical dialogue". Their intuitive process, inspired by impromptu Berlin sessions and previous performances, solidifies "Echoes of Solitude" as a profound exploration of complementing musical expressions.
