Smalltown Italy sometimes delivers big time. This is the case with Qlowski’s debut self-released tape, a bold statement coming from the province of Ravenna. Sure the suburbs can sometimes obliterate life, make you feel like a second choice option, but they can also create longstanding friendships, that gang spirit that will make you overcome any possible road bump. Qlowski’s music reads like a letter of intent, a deep amalgam of stories carried by an uncommon post-punk sensibility for a bunch of twenty year olds that are ready to fight any battle that comes in their way. The classics are all in place (Cure, Killing Joke, P.I.L) but what distinguishes the 4-piece is their ability to fuse propulsive rhythms, a modern spin on kiwi-pop and a weird combination of dark punk, noise rock and flower pop.
Qlowski is Michele Tellarini, Cecilia Corapi, Federica Carioli and Luca Facchini. Both Michele and Cecilia trade vocals on their debut EP recorded on 4 track cassette at Strange City Studios by Nico Pasquini (Stromboli, His Clancyness) and Jonathan Clancy (His Clancyness), mastered in Liverpool by Robert Whiteley (Bad Meds, Mugstar, Clinic), artwork and photography by Giulia Mazza.
