‘Beautiful Skeletons’ is a 22 track collection of songs spanning nearly two decades from Gavin Clark, erstwhile player and songwriter in Sunhouse, Clayhill and musical collaborator with visual director Shane Meadows.
Initially released on 26th May 2014 as a double vinyl album on Club AC30, ‘Beautiful Skeletons’ is a wonderful collection from the Gavin Clark songbook and has been collated by Shane Meadows from an original archive of some 290 songs that he has saved over their twenty year friendship. As he says himself ;
“Gavin Clark is the reason I gave up on my band and on any hopes of a career in music when I was 17 years of age. I heard him play one day in a friend’s kitchen in Uttoxeter and the second he sang I quit. The songs maybe spread out over 20 years, but they are bound together by their simplicity, their honesty and most of all his voice. It’s peerless and so is Gavin.”
The initial pressing also contained a short 40 minute visual accompaniment on DVD, ‘The Living Room’ filmed by Gavin and Shane, depicting a sometimes poignant, sometimes amusing snapshot of the pair’s friendship.
A second pressing by Club AC30 will be released February 16th 2025, limited to 500 copies of the double vinyl LP.
