This is the soundtrack of the documentary "Riefenstahl".
"Riefenstahl" is directed by Andres Veiel and explores the life of the infamous artist, filmmaker, and propagandist Leni Riefenstahl. The movie features never-before-seen materials from her estate, including private films, photos, letters and recordings, uncovering fragments of her biography and placing them in an extended historical context. The documentary, which premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival, is opening in German theaters today and has recently been picked up by Kino Lorber for a release in the U.S. in early 2025.
Note by Freya Arde:
Writing the music for Riefenstahl was one of the most intriguing projects I've ever had the pleasure to work on.
As Hitler's director, Riefenstahl played a big part in making him popular.
She spent her whole life trying to cover up the fact that she was convinced by the national socialist ideology.
The music plays a special role in this film because it‘s not written from her perspective, but looks behind her façade like a magnifying glass.
In contrast to the music from her films, which portrayed her idea of beautiful and strong men with huge orchestral scores, my music has been written to be very subtle, fragile and unsettling and allows us space to reflect.
