This recording was an experiment in cassette tape looping. All of these songs where recorded in a small corner of my garage using handmade tape loops. Most of the songs where created using a circuit bent Concertmate 380 keyboard and an unmodified Casio SK-1 keyboard, run through 3 delay pedals and a boss rv-3 reverb, controlled using a two Tascam four track tape recorders. I was inspired by the works of William Basinski and his disintegrating loops, as well as the experimental recording of Alvin Lucier "I Am Sitting In A Room" I wanted to create something that started out as one set of sounds and evolved into another sililar but different set of sounds. I have learned a few things throughout this activity. Loops not only apply to music but also to your life. Our lives are the tape loop playing through the tape recorder of life. I have learned by the process of these recordings that there is room within the loop to set yourself free, to change if you want, if that is what you desire. Yes, you can break free of the loop! The predictability of the loop can help to navigate and facilitate these changes. Are you on a loop? Is it a constructive or destructive loop? Have you started out on one path only to find yourself on a seemingly different one? Is it better? Is it worse? Is there a difference, or are they just different? Does it matter? Ask the loop....Expand
