"IONO" is the first album of SPHERES, Paris based alternative Prog metal band, released on May 10, 2019.
The invitation to spatio-galactic travel is one of the main dimensions of the album, what is obvious is the multitude of contrasts and textures that characterises it.
Sharp riffs with strong melodies, from clean to growl and scream vocals, ambiances oscillating between dream and frenzy... everything is done to shake the listeners up and invite them to take part in the journey.
In fact, nothing has been left to chance, including the artwork by Julien Grelet illustrations, even before the first notes, the dystopian, supernatural dimensions of an album that shuffles temporalities and breaks down the barriers between musical genres.
Influenced by; Gojira, Opeth, Mastodon, Tool, etc... it's varied!
BIOGRAPHY:
Founded by the singer/guitarist, Jonathan Lino (aka dictator StaLino) the project takes off in May 2018 with the arrival in Paris of Tom Pluijmaekers (Tommi P), drummer from The Netherlands in purpose of eating stuffed snails... Encountered in an intergalactic Strip Club, Camille on guitar and Lek on bass, joined them during a brawl at the bar, here comes the bromance!
Then the band goes on with the recording of their first album. The band completed and the album on track, SPHERES set off their first tour on March 2019.
"IONO" starts with the tribal and contrasted
"The Cimmerian Ghost", which evokes our humanity to
the iron age. We then fly away with "Mars",
an invitation to space exploration, marking and expressing
the need for mankind to always explore and
push beyond limits of its own condition.
"Stellar” a sort of stellar version of the myth
of Orpheus, mentioned along the same line, the infinite
complexity of the universe and its mysteries.
"TV Nation" stands a sharp criticism of talk shows and
media on the the payroll of Big Brother which turning us into zombies of
sofas. "Sound City" depicts, not without humor,
a squeaky portrait of our "political clowns".
Denunciations give way to the morbid with
"Silk Road" which, behind its sharpened riff,
take us into the deep of Dark Net and its
criminal drifts. "The Thing" is
the opportunity to immerse into an imaginary world,
a child's nightmare. The conclusion is clear with "Break Loose" and
his heavy chorus: resignation or escape
are no option, all we need to do is
express ourselves and burst in rage:
"Get it out, and fight!”

"IONO" est le premier album de SPHERES, groupe de métal progressif-alternatif franco-hollandais.
Si l'invitation au voyage spatio-galactique semble être une des dimensions principales de l'album, ce qui saute aux yeux (enfin, aux oreilles), c'est la multitude de contrastes et de textures qui l'habitent.
Des riffs acérés aux mélodies planantes, du chant clair au growl en passant par le scream, des ambiances oscillants entre rêve et frénésie... tout est fait pour bousculer l'auditeur dans ses habitudes et l'inviter à prendre part au voyage.
De fait, rien n’a été laissé au hasard, y compris l’artwork réalisé par Julien Grelet qui illustre, avant même les premières notes,
les dimensions dystopique, fantastique et surnaturelle d'un album qui bouscule les temporalités et fait tomber les frontières entre les genres.
Les influences ? Gojira, Opeth, Mastodon, Tool, etc... oui c'est varié !
BIOGRAPHIE :
Fondé par le chanteur/guitariste/dictateur, Jonathan Lino, aka Stalino, le projet prend son envol en mai 2018 avec l’arrivée à Paris de Tom Pluijmaekers (n'essayez même pas de le prononcer correctement), batteur venu de Hollande dans le but de manger des escargots farcis. Rencontrés au hasard d'un détour d'un SCI (Strip Club Intergalactique), Camille à la guitare et Lek à la basse les rejoignent peu de temps après. Le groupe étant au complet, celui-ci enchaîne avec l’enregistrement de son premier album. En mars 2019, deux mois avant la sortie officielle de l'album, SPHERES part pour sa première tournée (France, Belgique, Pays-Bas).
"IONO" débute avec le tribal et contrasté
“Cimmerian Ghost”, qui évoque notre Humanité à
l'âge de fer. On s’envole très vite avec “Mars” ,
invitation à l'exploration spatiale, marquant
la nécessité pour l'Homme de toujours
dépasser les limites de sa propre condition.
“Stellar” sorte de version stellaire du mythe
d'Orphée, évoque dans la même lignée l'infinie
complexité des mystères de l'Univers. Avec “TV
Nation” se dresse une critique acerbe de ces
puissances médiatiques à la solde des
multinationales, qui font de nous des zombies de
canapés. “Sound City” dresse, non sans humour,
un portrait grinçant de nos "clowns politiques".
La dénonciation fait place au morbide avec
“Silk Road” qui, derrière son riff aiguisé nous
emporte au cœur du Dark Net et de ses
dérives criminelles. “The Thing” est
l'occasion de replonger dans un monde
imaginaire , un cauchemar d'enfant. Le
constat est sans appel avec “Break Loose” et
son refrain heavy : la résignation, la fuite ne
sont pas des options. Il ne nous reste plus
qu'à exprimer et crier notre rage : "Get it out,
and fight".
