Orthogonal Resonance was originally conceived as a sound installation based on four tibetan bells struck at regular intervals by a set of computer-controlled mallets. The piece was subsequently recorded using a modular synthesizer to simulate the characteristics of the original instruments. The recording aims to explores the ability of rhythm and sound to affect human brainwave activity, especially theta brainwaves, to induce over time an altered state of consciousness akin to what we normally only experience fleetingly as we wake or drift off to sleep.
