I daydream a lot
Seemed to be obsessed with going over scenes in my head
Things that have happened
Things that haven’t
Hazy, liquid, moving images of how I would do things differently
Dreams of the future, wishes, secrets, confessions
A secret world which my mind would inhabit
that ran alongside this one
When the pandemic hit early last year it felt like the world had stopped
It stripped me of everything;
of my fears, constraints, time
I finally felt present in the moment
and not the passenger I feared I was becoming
I was left with just my piano, guitar and myself in my bedroom
and these daydreams
Selvacava is a little village in central Italy near to where my family live
Monte Fammera watches over
Every year I went there
nothing changed
It was a haven in my mind and outside
A place that I could regularly revisit
where everything stayed the same
Eventually, as we grow older, things do change,
and I was left with these memories of love and loss,
of nights that never ended,
of people no longer with us
of all the times I was not able to revisit in person,
but only in the mind
As I got further away from these moments,
My memories did too
Visions, fantasies, wishes, dreams, lies
All of the things that resided in my daydreams
began to melt into each other
I was no longer sure which ones were which
Everything that was close to my heart,
all the moments I held so dear,
all that I was so sure of after all this time
Maybe it was all something completely different
Maybe it was never there in the first place
And it’s that collision of magic and matter that became this album
For a long time I think I was stuck in a daydream
One that consumed my whole being
And I guess this is what this album is about
Leaving the things that can’t be revisited
and letting them go
If I had never got these visions out of my mind
I think it would have haunted me for as long as I lived
This isn’t the easiest of listens but I think it’s as true as I’ve ever written.
