Do you want to know? I’m going to tell you anyway : (1) Spektah - spectre = ghost - Ghostown - Gadjo = stranger/foreigner - So Ghost Stranger - I identify with this, being a foreigner in another country. (2) Spektah Gadjo - Inspektah - Inspector Gadjo - Inspector Gadget - The theme for the song started from playing around with the melody to this!
Tracks to this album already existed in 2009 whilst we were zipping around France playing gigs in the aftermath of the Reflections album. 2010 however brought big changes, I had already left Montpellier in 2007 where I had played with DJ Kirsa and Baptizer, the distance meant playing together was pretty difficult, but we somehow managed to do a residency in Grenoble and play all over the place, even a gig in the Koko club London. But in 2010 I had had to stop playing live which wasn’t paying the bills and take a job in the supermarket, it pretty much signalled the end of our trio. Baptizer did provide a guitar riff for the very original “Hatstand” and DJ Kirsa brought the enchanting violins to “Mister Glum” as well as scratch on Toast and Seamen, (Toast and Seamen mmm maybe I should have reworded that)
The album’s overall feel is much more balkan than it’s predecessor, it features Eastern European folk music samples, more family musicians for Breton and Cabin Fever, the tone is less dark, more festive and light hearted. Mostly made with the Elektron Octatrack, Elektron A4 an MPC 1000 and a Nord keyboard.
The Artwork was done by the talented Niet, who I can no longer find on the net, he must have changed his name. The album was mastered by Monsieur Grandin
Four years after Reflectionz completion, get ready to meet Spektah Gadjo, Mister Glum and the French Seamen among others.
Again taking hip hop into experimental directions, from traditionally moody to balkan boom bap, frippeno discordances to waitsy woods
Enjoy!
