Rest in Peace to Mercy L. Brown, George T. Brown, Mary E. Brown, Mary O. Brown, Edwin A. Brown. May God Rest Your Souls in Eternal Peace. Mercy Lena Brown (8/2/1872 - 1/17/1892) of Exeter, Rhode Island was a victim of the "Consumption" epidemic of New England during the late 1800's. After she passed away, her body was laid to rest in an above ground holding vault until the ground was soft enough to dig a proper grave for her. Mercy's family had deemed her a vampire after her brother Edwin had reported her participating in strange behaviors prior to her death, so the ravenous townsfolk had blamed the "consumption" outbreak on her. On March 17, 1892 Mercy's father, George, had approved the exhumation of Mercy, her mother Mary, as well as her sister Mary O. Because of the cold temperature, Mercy's body had decomposed a small amount, there was still blood in her veins and her nails and hair had grown. They knew for sure they had their vampire. Mercy's heart and liver were then burned to ash, and put into a tonic and given to her brother, Edwin, as a sort of "miracle cure" to cure his illness. Her later died 2 months later. A very tragic tale of early American superstition. Just 10 years later, the cure for "consumption" was discovered. This Textile Failure release is carefully intended to recreate a small bit of the pain that this family went through during the epidemic of tuberculosis, in audial form. Raw feedback loops with 1 Graphic EQ pedal, 1 Pro-Co Rat distortion pedal, and a Behringer Xenyx Q802 mixer. Recorded in the warmer months of April and May 2025, By: Brian Wright.Expand
