"The Grieving Fields" is Voland's fourth work and the first full length album in a career of short EPs.
Musically, the band continue to strengthen their sound, made of the heavy riffing from various extreme metal genres blended together with the melody of orchestra and epic score composition. Much influential are the folk music contaminations and the impact of popular tradition.
Conceptually, the album explores the themes of war and sacrifice, focusing not on the glorification of violence, but rather condemning the suffering that it brings to the population, the contradictions of nationalism and the division that civil conflict imposes upon families and communities.
In such a way the band tell stories of old wars while at the same time addressing unresolved issues that unfortunately still affect this part of Europe: "The Grieving Fields" is a collection of stories and emotions inspired by the Russian south, the Caucasus, Donbass, Crimea and Ukraine.
All these regions have a close shared history that no nationalism and imperialism can cancel, this album stands for peace and is dedicated to the people who resist violence and oppression.
