Nocturnes

Created during the late night hours in San Francisco. This album is inspired by the city at night, while longing, always, for the country.
I feel this is the closest I’ve come to a sleep album. It features my analog Roland JX-3P recorded into my beloved AKAI GX-4000D 1/4” Reel-to-Reel tape deck.
For me, this album was as much about atmosphere and sound design as composition. The limitations of the 2-track recordings forced a minimal approach to the live performance. Repetition, the use of effects, and intentional shifts in volume help (I hope) add a trance inducing nature to the music.
My AKAI tape deck also adds its own personality and atmosphere to the tracks. When listening, especially on headphones, machine noise, reels turning, and tape hiss can be heard, adding extra layers of ambient noise to the music. This vintage machine, with all its imperfections, holds a special place in my heart.
